This was a side project where I along with my group had design a micro calendar.

The target users of our micro calender are those who have touch screen mobiles or the mobiles with atleast screen size of 2.5 inch (Diagonally). It will help users to get better view of it and they will get more advantage.

Micro calendar

Micro calendar’s main screen has a main bar with time display. There is a switch view button for changing view of the micro calendar either from basic to professional or vice versa. Below the main bar current date (date month, year) can be seen with forward and backward buttons on either side to change month. The calendar is the central part of the main screen. To the south of calendar there is a task display area which acts as screen.

Professional View
Classic View

The difference between the “Professional View” and the “Classic View”:
Classic view is for novice users for instance they need everything clear when they see the calender for the first time.In this view the size of calender is small because of the buttons with complete text written on them. Because of the complete text on, they cover a more space while in professional view, buttons have only a letter on it and the size of the calender is bigger in this view. This view is for those users who will get use to the usage of calender so they will not need complete text on the buttons. When they will go to the button, let say “H” in a professional view then a balloon will appear with “Home” written on it but when user will get much familiar with it so the user wont need it anymore as well so user can off this help as well.

We thought of this design, as in our mind because of our target users (as described above).

Functionality’s of each button of calendar :

To the left of calendar there is Add, Edit and Delete buttons. All these buttons are clickable and when clicked a separate window opens for each. Add button helps user to add tasks. While adding tasks, Date will be default date. If user wishes to add a task on some other day (except present day and previous days) drop down boxes present will help to select particular date, month and year. The details of task like Subject, Description, Time, Repeat (Never, daily, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday), Priority (High, Medium, Low) and Type (Home, Work, Birthday or Anniversary) are filled. These details can be saved after clicking save button

.Add Button

The delete frame helps in deleting tasks. All the tasks will have a checkbox so that user can select and delete a task by clicking on delete button. With select all option all the task can be selected for deletion. To delete all previous tasks  a separate check box , present along with other check boxes, when selected will delete all previous tasks of that month.

delete

The Edit frame helps to edit the tasks. Edit screen will be similar to add screen. Only difference will that be all fields Subject, Description, Time, Repeat (Never, daily, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday), Priority (High, Medium, Low) and Type (Home, Work, Birthday or Anniversary) are editable.

To the right of calendar there four buttons with categories such as Home, Work, Birthdays and Anniversaries. When clicked on either Birthday/Anniversaries, all upcoming birthdays/anniversaries of that month will be highlighted in the calendar. Highlighting is the border of that day will become broad (dude try to change this sentence I am unable to frame it properly). Simultaneously all the upcoming birthdays/anniversaries will be displayed in the Task display area, sorted according to the date and time. The format of display is name, date and time.

Similarly for Home/Work highlighting and display procedure used is same. The format of display is subject, description, time, priority and type.

PRO’S  found in this design straight forward, easy to use. While CON can be size which can be large for 2.5 inch mobile phones.

Creativity

WHAT INSPIRES CReATIVITy ?

“Enthusiasm is excitement with inspiration, motivation, and a pinch of creativity” by Bo Bennett.

Creativity is creating something new that has some kind of value. It’s thinking something which is out of box. It is also a novel way of doing something unknown. In order to furnish creativity it has to be prompted.

Today I was sitting in one of the group rooms of Polacksbacken(of Uppsala University) with my Group for working on course projects and suddenly I looked at some creative and smart idea in the room. The picture below seems to be a smart idea of smart person:

You can see the tube light frame hanging in the middle of the room. This frame has two lights i.e. one is upside of the frame and other is downside of it. The frame has two strings hanging on its right side. With one string one can turn on or off the below light of this frame while sitting on the chair.

And with the other string one can turn on or off the above light of the frame as shown in the figure below:

The conclusion can easily be done with the quote of Epictetus “No great thing is created suddenly.”
